The FIPPD (Fondazione Informatica per la Promozione della Persona Disabile) for more than ten years has been actively working on the research/action front in the field of construction and adaptation of informatic aids devoted to reduce the serious communicative, educativea and working handicap that strikes, from birth or later in the life, people with severe forms of disabilities.
The Centro Informatica Disabilità (CID) took on the executive mandate of the FIPPD's goal.

The informatic and electronic instruments produced by CID are used at home, at school, in the sheltered workshops and even in hospitals or in residential aged care. They are appreciated not only by users but also by people who live in close contact with them, reducing, as far as possible, the daily stress of the heavy communicative barrier and of the motor and sensory disabilities.

The CID collects and analyses the needs of autonomy, communication, training and integration of people with disabilities.
It promotes the design and development of specific aids, highly customizable and specialized, in the information technology and communication fields, with particular disciplinary reference to curative pedagogics (ortopedagogics).
It produces educational software for non-disabled children that is also completely accessible to disabled children.
It advices and directly and indirectly support the realization of individual adaptations with which it seeks to promote:
- the autonomy,
- the communication,
- the learning,
- the integration and the life quality of people with disabilities.
It's involved in the professional training of school and social operators in the universities of applied sciences (Supsi Dsass, Asp) and in the dissemination of a culture of comprehension and respect towards disabled people.

The Scientific Commission |

During the summer of 2007 the FIPPD appointed a scientific commission with the task of examining the scientific validity of the CID activities, in particular of - the developed tools, in connection to their quality and the state of research in the curative pedagogy (orthopedagogy), - the quality of their technology (IT and electronics). The FIPPD also asked to express an opinion on the possibility and feasibility of the operational integration of some of the CID activities in the ambit of tertiary level schools. The scientific commission has been asked to prepare a written report for the Fondazione Informatica per la Promozione della Persona Disabile (FIPPD), which was then forwarded to the director of the cultural division of DECS (Dipartimento educazione cultura e sport, Tessin government).
